Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how FirstCampsite.com ("FirstCampsite," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website, iOS app, and related campsite and permit availability services.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use FirstCampsite, we may collect:

  • Account and contact information, including your email address, optional phone number, account identifier, and communication preferences.
  • Scan and trip information, including campgrounds, permits, dates, party size, selected locations, scan status, and alert settings.
  • Purchase information, including the plan or scan you purchased, transaction status, subscription tier, and entitlement history. We do not receive or store your complete payment-card number.
  • Device and notification information, including an iOS push-notification token and basic device category when needed to provide notifications and app functionality.
  • Usage and performance information, including page or screen visits, searches, result selections, scan creation and activation events, approximate device category, viewport size, time zone, and generated visitor and session identifiers.
  • Referral and advertising attribution, including the referring domain, landing page, UTM campaign parameters, and the type of advertising click identifier present in a link. In the iOS app, this may also include aggregate counts of opened installations and sign-ups by Apple Ads campaign, ad group, and keyword identifiers.
  • Support information that you choose to send when you contact us or report a missing campground or permit.

2. How We Use Information

We use this information to:

  • Create, authenticate, and manage accounts.
  • Create and operate campsite and permit availability scans.
  • Send email, SMS, and iOS push notifications that you request.
  • Process purchases, maintain entitlements, and restore purchases.
  • Provide customer support and respond to missing-target requests.
  • Measure product performance, diagnose problems, and improve the service.
  • Measure advertising and referral performance, including sign-up and scan conversion events.
  • Protect the service from abuse and comply with legal obligations.

3. Local Storage, Cookies, and Advertising Measurement

The FirstCampsite website uses browser storage to keep a generated visitor identifier, a session identifier, scan drafts, and referral or ad attribution information. Outside the iOS app, Google advertising measurement may also use cookies or similar technologies to measure visits and conversions. You can limit these technologies through your browser, device, or Google privacy settings, although some saved preferences may stop working.

The iOS app may use Apple's AdServices attribution system to determine whether an opened installation resulted from an Apple Ads campaign. We send Apple's short-lived attribution token to Apple for validation. We do not retain the raw token or attach Apple Ads attribution to an account, profile, device identifier, visitor, or session. We retain only daily aggregate opened-install and sign-up counters by source, campaign, ad group, and keyword. A time-limited, encrypted receipt is stored only in the app long enough to count a later sign-up, then removed. A short-lived, anonymous deduplication value is stored separately from the aggregate counters and contains no campaign or account information.

4. Service Providers and Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share information only as needed with service providers that help us operate FirstCampsite, including:

  • Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, data storage, application infrastructure, and scan processing.
  • Vercel for website and API hosting and, outside the iOS app, website analytics. Vercel Web Analytics may derive an approximate country, state, or city from network information. Vercel Web Analytics is disabled in the iOS app web view.
  • Twilio and SendGrid for SMS and email notifications.
  • Apple for App Store purchases, iOS push notifications, and Apple Ads attribution.
  • Stripe for purchases made on the FirstCampsite website.
  • Google Ads for advertising attribution and conversion measurement.
  • OpenStreetMap for map tiles. Its tile service receives ordinary network information, such as an IP address, user agent, referrer, timestamp, and the requested tiles, as needed to return the map.

These providers process information under their own privacy terms and only receive information needed to provide the applicable service. We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users, our rights, or the security of the service.

5. Notifications

Email, SMS, and push notifications are sent according to the contact methods you select. You can change notification preferences in your account, pause or archive scans, disable push notifications in iOS Settings, or contact us for assistance.

6. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain transaction and notification records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type and operational need.

Anonymous Apple Ads deduplication values expire automatically after the attribution window. Aggregate campaign counters do not identify an account, device, visitor, or session.

8. Your Choices and Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data. You may also change notification preferences or withdraw optional communications. Some transaction or security records may be retained when legally or operationally required.

9. Children's Privacy

FirstCampsite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Policy Changes

We may update this policy as the service changes. The current version and effective date will remain available at https://www.firstcampsite.com/privacy.
